How Can I Remove XP Internet Security 2010?
XP Internet Security 2010 is a rogue 'security application' which tries really hard to get its users to purchase its "licensed version".
Also known as XP antivirus pro 2010, this application is a fake antivirus program which will detect hundreds of examples of malware on your system if you believe the results of the scan which it initiates for you.
XP Internet Security 2010 is pushed through Trojans and malicious websites that you may visit.
Once it has been installed on your system it will run a fake scan that is guaranteed to discover umpteen threats that you were never previously aware of.
Following this, you will be presented with an activiation window that will prompt you to purchase a license for the full product which can supposedly remove all of these newly discovered threats.
In reality, the only threat likely to be on your computer at this point is XP Internet Security 2010 itself!
If you are unfortunate enough to have this piece of junk on your system then there is a two-fold solution that you can easily follow:
Firstly, you'll need to delete the following files, all of which are likely to be in your C:\Windows\System32 or C:\Program Files\InternetSEcurity2010 directories -
- IS2010.exe
- 41.exe
- winhelper86.dll
- winlogon86.exe
- winupdate86.exe
- Internet Security 2010.lnk
Secondly, you will need to remove the following registry entries -
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IS2010
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "Internet Security 2010"
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "winupdate86.exe"
Now you should be rid of this fake antivirus program :-)
